Welcome to another week at Bushburg!

Office News

Recap of Last Week.

  • Bushburg Proposed Team Norms were shared for some feedback on the #general channel and the official norms have been revised as Bushburg Team Norms please take the time to read them through and apply them every day. We will be held accountable for these norms. I would like to give emphasis to a few of these norms today as it is the things I encounter the most. These are not the descriptions found in the actual norms, this is just my comments that I would like to add to the norms that can be read in the above link.

    • WE SOLVE OUR OWN PROBLEMS BEFORE ASKING FOR HELP - This is very important, and when we try our best to figure things out and we still need help, it is very important to share our questions in Slack on a channel where the question will reach more people and it will provide a better opportunity for it to be resolved and where the answer will be a learning experience for many others as well.

    • WE KEEP OUR WORKSPACE NEAT AND RESPECT OUR SHARED SPACES - We currently have a cleaning lady that comes twice a week. There are 3 other days that no one is coming to clean. If we don't clean up after ourselves we allow for garbage and leftover food to begin to smell bad, and this affects everyone. It is very important never to leave food out, and to take out the garbage when we have food items in the bin. Also, when we eat, it is very important to wipe down the crumbs or spills that may have been left over from our food. There are wipes, and Windex in the cabinet under the kitchen sink for anyone that needs it.

    • WE LOVE AND LEVERAGE SLACK - We have all been using Slack and it is wonderful to see how much of a difference this is making in keeping us all working so well together. One thing that I would like to point out is that it is very important to know that one of the principles of Slack is to try to have every conversation in public channels for the sake of transparency and collaboration. As a general rule try to send messages in channels instead of in direct messages. This is not bothering anyone, on the contrary, it is helping everyone else by sharing some information.

  • Signature Template Adjustments - Elky Hoffman shared on Slack that we no longer are going to be using Oggvo, so we all need to remove the widget from our email signatures. I ask of everyone to please go to the general channel in Slack and green checkmark her post to confirm that you don't have the Oggvo widget in your signature. As of this morning only 3 people had green checkmarks. Looking forward to a lot more by the end of the day. ✅

  • This week - Jordan is working on establishing the Organizational Design, so a new Questionnaire will be published this week. It will be a non-anonymous survey and we will need everyone to participate as we all did before. We are counting on all of you to make this successful!

Slack Tips

I have noticed this past week that some people could find these tips useful.

  • Replying with Emoji's when the 3 most common ones don't show up - Some people don't have the three most common emoji's automatically show in their messages. So in this case you will need to click on the little face with a + and then select the appropriate emoji for the response instead of creating a new message with the emoji that you wanted to use.

  • Editing Messages - Sometimes I see people send a message in Slack with an error and then correct themselves in a second message after the first message. In Slack it is possible to Edit a message. You just need to hover your mouse on your message and click on the 3 dots to the right. As you will see in the picture, you can also Mark Messages Unread, Set Reminders, Copy Link, Pin to Channel and delete your message or create a task in Wrike.

  • Copying someone on a Message - Sam G shared a good piece of advice on the #random channel and I would like to share it here: When you @ someone on Slack, please make sure the question is directed to the person you want it answered from. If you want other people to see your question, but you are not necessarily directing the question to them drop a "cc:" before their name at the end of the message.
